Greenville, the wait is almost over.
After months of driving down Woodruff Road, spotting the sign and wondering when we could actually get our hands on a ShackBurger, Shake Shack has an opening date.
The first Shake Shack in the Upstate is set to open Friday, September 25, 2026, bringing its famous burgers, crinkle-cut fries and hand-spun shakes to Greenville.
And there’s a local give-back happening on opening day that we especially love. π§‘

π Where is Greenville’s Shake Shack?
The new Shake Shack is located at:

If that spot looks familiar, there’s a reason: it’s the former Fuddruckers location.
The Greenville location will include both a dining room and drive-thru, which means yes, you can technically get your Shake Shack without getting out of the car.
You do, however, still have to get onto Woodruff Road. π
A ribbon cutting is scheduled for 9:30 AM on opening day, September 25.
π Okay, but what should you order at Shake Shack?
If you’ve never been to Shake Shack, start with the classic.
The ShackBurger is the restaurant’s signature: an Angus beef cheeseburger topped with lettuce, tomato and ShackSauce on a toasted potato bun.
Pair it with the crinkle-cut fries and you’re basically getting the Shake Shack starter pack.
And if you’re going all in, add one of their hand-spun shakes. Cookies & Cream has been reported as one of the brand’s most popular shake choices.
Shake Shack’s menu also includes crispy chicken sandwiches, chicken bites, hot dogs, cheese fries, frozen custard, lemonade and more.
Basically, maybe don’t make opening day the day you decide to start a diet. π
𧑠The part of opening day we REALLY love
Here’s where the story gets a little more Greenville.
On September 25, Shake Shack will donate $1 from every sandwich sold at the Greenville location to Project Host, supporting the local nonprofit’s work addressing food insecurity in our community.
And if you aren’t familiar with Project Host, you should be.
The Greenville nonprofit has been serving our community since 1981, beginning with its soup kitchen and growing over the years to provide programs centered around food access, culinary education and helping people build skills and opportunities.
So if you’re already planning to be one of the people braving opening-day Woodruff Road traffic for a burger…
your lunch can do a little good locally, too. π§‘
The first wave of guests on opening day will also receive a custom South Carolina-themed Shake Shack cold cup while supplies last.
π€ But wait… is Greenville’s Shake Shack locally owned?
This is something we wanted to know too β especially because around here, we’re obviously big fans of knowing who’s behind the businesses coming to Greenville.
The short answer is no.
And technically, the Greenville Shake Shack doesn’t appear to be a locally owned franchise either.
Shake Shack Inc. is a publicly traded national restaurant company, and the company distinguishes between its company-operated restaurants and licensed locations. Based on Shake Shack’s corporate information and hiring for the Woodruff Road restaurant, Greenville’s location appears to be a company-operated Shake Shack rather than a franchise owned by a local Greenville operator.
There are local ties to the development of the property, including Greenville-based RealtyLink’s involvement in bringing the project to Woodruff Road, but that’s different from locally owning or operating the restaurant.
So no, we’re not going to tell you Shake Shack is local when it isn’t. π
But we do love seeing a national brand intentionally do something local when it enters our community.
And donating $1 from every opening-day sandwich to Project Host is a pretty great way to start. π§‘
π½ How did Shake Shack get started?
While it’s definitely a major national brand today, Shake Shack actually has a pretty interesting beginning.
It started as a hot dog cart in New York City’s Madison Square Park before becoming a permanent kiosk in 2004. From there, it grew into the international restaurant brand we know today.
Which means somewhere along the way, a hot dog cart turned into Greenville collectively watching a building on Woodruff Road waiting for the burger sign to light up.
